Hunimation – II. Hungarian Animation Pitching Forum

The Hunimation – II. Hungarian Animation Pitch Forum launches its official open call, inviting Hungarian animation creators and producers to submit their projects for selection to the Annecy MIFA Hunimation Pitch, held as part of the world’s leading animation industry event. Submission deadline: 28 January 2026

In 2025, Hungary reached a historic milestone as Guest of Honour of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Hungarian professionals participated in a wide range of high-profile industry events, including the MIFA Partner Pitch, where five Hungarian animation projects were showcased to international decision-makers.

Building on this momentum, the Hungarian Animation Producers Association (MAPSZ) will organise the II. Hungarian Animation Pitch Forum in 2026, complemented by professional training and preparation programmes. The forum offers a unique international showcase opportunity, with selected projects representing Hungary at the Annecy MIFA Hunimation Pitch.

Objective of the Call

The goal of the open call is to select the strongest Hungarian animation projects and prepare them professionally for international pitching at Annecy. The programme supports creators not only through selection but also through targeted development, mentoring and pitch training.

Who Can Apply

The call is open to all Hungarian animation creators and producers, regardless of genre or format. Eligible project types include animated short films, feature films, TV series, immersive and VR projects. There is no limit on the number of projects that may be submitted by a single applicant. Applications may be submitted by either the producer or the director of the project.

Application Requirements

All application materials must be submitted in English, as both the Budapest pitch forum and the Annecy pitch sessions will be conducted in English. The complete application package must be uploaded as one single PDF file, with a maximum file size of 50 MB, via the online application platform.

Only applications containing detailed visual materials will be accepted, and submissions must comply with the formal requirements of the selected project category.

Selection Process

Projects selected for Annecy will be chosen through a two-stage selection process.

In the first stage, a professional pre-selection jury will evaluate all submitted projects and shortlist up to 12 projects to be invited to the live Hunimation Pitch Forum in Budapest.

During the second stage, shortlisted creators will pitch their projects live at the II. Hungarian Animation Pitch Forum. Based on the decision of the professional jury and the audience, a maximum of five projects will be selected to pitch at the Annecy MIFA Hunimation Pitch, one of the most prestigious animation industry platforms worldwide.

Professional Preparation and Training

An essential part of the Hunimation programme is professional preparation. Selected projects will take part in personal consultations and targeted training sessions, focusing on project development and English-language pitching skills. The aim is to ensure that Hungarian animation projects are presented at Annecy at the highest possible international standard.

Applicant Commitments

By submitting a project, applicants agree to allow the organisers to use visual and audiovisual materials from their projects, such as trailers, teasers or pilots, for promotional purposes across official communication channels. Selected participants also commit to attending preparatory events, training sessions and the Annecy Hunimation Pitch.

Organisation and Support

The Hunimation – Hungarian Animation Pitch Forum is organised by the Hungarian Animation Producers Association (MAPSZ) and the Friss Hús team, with the support of the National Film Institute Hungary.
