As Guest of Honour at Annecy 2025, Hungary brings a versatile industry presence to the MIFA animation market. With a broad range of events taking place at MIFA Campus and the Hungarian Booth, the program highlights the country’s animation ecosystem across education, co-production, innovation, and immersive media.

MIFA Campus: Educational Leadership and New Generations

Renowned director Áron Gauder (Four Souls of Coyote) leads the MIFA Campus Patron Program with his Masterclass, offering behind-the-scenes insights and mentorship for the next generation of animators.

The Talent Panel, titled Prestige vs Paycheck, will explore how young professionals navigate between artistic ambition and financial realities, with contributions from educators, filmmakers, and industry mentors. Panelists include writer-director Anita Doron, Melinda Kiss (Head of Animation Programme, Budapest Metropolitan University), Damján Lazin (MOME, Piros Studio), and Bálint Gelley (producer and director at CUB Animation). The discussion is moderated by Eszter Lányi, Head of Training at the National Film Institute, Hungary.

Earlier the same day, the GEECT Thematic Meeting – organized by MOME and the National Film Institute – will tackle the integration of AI into animation education. The discussion is moderated by Dániel Deák, Festival Director of Friss Hús Budapest International Short Film Festival.

The Partner Pitch, showcasing five standout projects selected from Hungary’s first Animation Pitch Forum, will spotlight emerging creative voices through diverse formats – from poetic shorts to preschool series and web content.

Hungarian Animation: A Hub for Co-Productions and Creative Partnerships is a dedicated industry panel offering a comprehensive overview of Hungary’s animation sector. Panelists include Dr. Gergely Kalocsay (Head of Legal Support, Hungarian National Film Institute), Réka Temple (President of the Hungarian Animation Producers Association, CEO of Cinemon Studio), Alex Rabb (Founder and CEO of DIGIC Studio), Zsuzsanna Vincze (Head of Film Knowledge Centre at MOME), and Panni Osvay (Head of Sales at KEDD Animation Studio). The session is moderated by Dániel Deák.

A Vivid Hungarian Booth: Daily Networking and Thematic Events

Throughout the week, the Hungarian Booth (B11) at MIFA serves as a central point for international networking and professional dialogue. A daily Meet the Hungarian Animation morning session (June 9–13, 09:00) invites visitors to connect with key Hungarian professionals and gain insights into current trends and developments in the sector.

The official booth opening will take place on June 10, 12:00–13:00, followed by a Baltic Networking Event the same afternoon (June 10, 15:30–16:30).

Several thematic gatherings follow across the week, all of which will take place at the Hungarian Booth (B11) at MIFA.

  • The XR Gatheringon June 11, 17:00 offers a casual meetup for professionals working in VR, AR, and interactive media – open to creators, producers, and technologists alike.
  • The Hungarian and German Animation networking eventon June 12, 16:00 provides a platform to explore shared production strategies and talent exchange.

Hungary’s educational institutions are also actively represented at the booth. Budapest Metropolitan University (METU) and Eszterházy Károly Catholic University (EKKE) each introduce their animation training programs, sharing insights into curriculum development and international partnerships.

In addition to the VR showcase of Missing 10 Hours on Campus, the project will also be discussed in a professional talk by its director, Fanni Fazakas. This multi-award-winning VR narrative explores the impact of drug-facilitated assault and has been presented at over 30 international festivals. Fazakas’s talk will delve into both the artistic choices and ethical dimensions of the project.
