Annecy 2025 – Focus on Hungary
The Annecy International Animation Film Festival is regarded as the “Olympics” of the animation world. It is a tremendous honour and a significant milestone for Hungary to be the Guest Country in 2025.
This distinction celebrates not only the rich history of Hungarian animation, but also the vibrant, talented, and globally recognized creative community that continues to define the medium. Our presence offers a unique opportunity to demonstrate the values and innovation of Hungarian animation and to further solidify our position on the international stage.
The Hungarian Focus Program aims to present the country’s diverse and innovative animation potential to the global audience in a memorable and impactful way. It also seeks to launch long-term initiatives that extend beyond the festival and strengthen the international visibility of Hungarian animation.
Recent successes of Hungarian animation include a record number of feature films such as White Plastic Sky, Blue Pelican, The Four Souls of Coyote, Toldi, and Csongor and Tünde. In addition, international co-productions like Tomi, Polli and the House Spirit and John Vardar vs the Galaxy further showcase the strength of the sector.
Hungary’s highlighted role at Annecy was initiated by the National Film Institute in honour of the 110th anniversary of Hungarian animation.
